Kayak Helper: A Real Solution to Everyday Carriacou Frustrations

Let’s be real—if you live in Carriacou, you know how things go.

You need to find a plumber? Good luck with that. You’ll have to call a cousin, who’ll tell you to message somebody on Facebook, who might take two days to respond—if they respond at all. And by the time you get through? “Boy, he stop doing that long time now.”

You want to check if a shop open? You make the journey—hot sun, no breeze, gas not cheap—only to reach and see a rusty padlock and a handwritten sign that say: “Back Soon.” But “soon” could mean next week. Or never.

Facebook? Full of noise.
You ask a genuine question and somehow end up in a comment war, or with 30 random tags from people you don’t even know.
Half of them didn’t read what you wrote. The other half just tagging their padna because, well—why not.

WhatsApp groups? Chaos.
You go in there looking for a number… But you end up scrolling past 5 voice notes, a chain message from 2017, and somebody selling fish out the back of a van. Somewhere in between, you might find what you came for. If you lucky.

Posters?
Either they blow off the pole, fade out in the sun, or get layered over by three more flyers before the weekend done.
By Monday, it’s like they were never there.

So yeah… we fed up in Carriacou.

Fed up of playing Chinese whispers just to find out who fixing brakes, who open late, who baking on Fridays.

Fed up of feeling like the only way to know what going on—is to already be in the loop.

We deserve better.

We deserve a space where you can actually find what you need—fast, with no runaround.
Whether you’re a local who just wants a reliable electrician without having to call the whole family tree…
A tourist trying to figure out where to get a good cold Stag in Carriacou without being overcharged…
Or a creative out here pushing your hustle and just trying to be seenKayak Helper was built for that.

This isn’t about trying to “be better than anyone.” This is about doing better, full stop. It’s about filling a gap that’s been wide open for way too long.

And nah—we not sponsored. Not powered by some big foreign check. Not dropped in by some agency that flying out next week.

This is homegrown. Built by someone who live here in Carriacou. Who walk the same farm roads, go through the same struggles, and just got tired of asking the same questions with no answers.

It’s time we had a platform that works for us.

Not just another app.
Not just another idea.
But something real. Something ours.

Want to see who’s already on board? Check the Kayak Helper business directory.

Massive.

  1. Great idea

    1. Thank you for your kind words.

  2. Great initiative! Every time I call my grandma who lives in Carriacou, she shares the same frustrations mentioned above, she’s called “so and so” to come fix the pipe, and every day it’s “tomorrow,” but he still hasn’t shown up. And that’s just one of many gripes.

I also feel like the esprit de corps we once had is fading, we’ve become such a selfish little island in many ways. So I truly appreciate this initiative and will support it in any way I can.

    1. Really appreciate this. I know that “tomorrow” story all too well. Your grandma’s not alone. And yes, it does feel like we have lost some of that togetherness. Just trying to do my part to bring a bit of that back. Thanks for the love and support.

  3. Yes, I agree with everything said,
The promises made when you ask workers to do something for you and you’ll get., “I’ll come first thing tomorrow morning “ and guess what, they never turn up and when you next see them the excuse comes, “I got tied up” asked whether their phone was tied up to and you get a blank look as though you should have said that 🤦🏽‍♀️

    1. Right?! That “I’ll pass first thing in the morning” line has become folklore at this point 😅 And the classic “I got tied up” with no call, no text. It’s like we’re supposed to read their minds! Appreciate you for chiming in, we definitely need more accountability across the board.
